This super impressionistic palette knife painting was the result of an early morning experiment with primary colors and an inability to sleep. This painting had been occupying my brain for several days. It wasn't until a 2:30 a.m. awakening that wouldn't allow me to shake the idea of doing it 100 percent with a diamond shaped palette knife and with only mixing primary colors plus white to achieve the color harmony this painting possesses. I got up and got to work immediately, finishing just before sunrise.
This scene was inspired by the sunrises we see every day where we live on Kent Island in the Chesapeak Bay in Maryland.
