This abstract piece was actually inspired by a musical piece - "Moonlight Sonata" by Beethoven. It's one of my favorite pieces, with its hauntingly beautiful melody. While "Moonlight Sonata" was not really the title of the piece, it is most commonly known by that name because a critic compared the piece to moonlight shining on Lake Lucerne. In truth, Beethoven wrote the piece for a woman he loved who did not reciprocate his affection and married another man.
Working only in turquoise, I set out to capture the mood of the piece, without all the drama, of course. There's no unrequited love, just a large lake with reflected moonlight that signifies to me the feel of Beethoven's sonata.
