Karen asked me to create a simple Bob Ross-ish painting for a class in Corydon this week. It has the four classic Bob things - Clouds, Mountain, Water and trees. This is very similar (almost identical) to the painting students of the Bob Ross certification courses paint about five times during the course. It is an oversimplified version of "Majestic Peaks" from season 18, episode 6 (if memory serves me correctly). It's an old friend of mine, one I haven't talked to in awhile but still have fond feeling toward.
I have painted versions of this painting hundreds of times. It's a classic design and is fun to paint. We'll be doing this little gem in Corydon at The Inspired Child, but the class is actually for adults.
I'm posting here not to try to sell you on this class, or this painting that is available in our gallery (lol).
But I am definitely posting here because Karen's blog post from a couple of weeks ago about revisiting subjects is a good one. I was reminded this week just how often I return to some of the classic Bob Ross paintings because they are comfortable.
This idea of revisiting a subject also came up when I was coaching a student this week, but in a different way. I suggested to the student that she paint the same painting each year as a way to check her progress against a known entity - the previous version of her painting. I do it. I'll have a blog and video on the subject of doing the same painting again and again at some point in the future, so look for that. In the meantime get back to painting and posting in the forums.
I think this is a great introduction type painting, and I suspect it will do well. I know that you heard the same things I did at the acrylic painting class I attended. People want to paint oils, but have a fear of them being difficult. Other than the snow on the mountain, this is a nice and easy introduction.
