Hi Everybody! We all know that when we set a goal we are much more likely to achieve it if we share it with others! What are your artistic goals for 2023?! If you haven't thought of any yet, why not?! Your desire for your artistic journey could be something very simple, or something grand, it doesn't matter. What does matter is articulating the goal, putting it out there, and then taking action to move closer to it in 2023. Please share your goals, however mundane or however lofty as a comment on this post. We're all committed to supporting one another!
Brian and I are going to be launching a painting challenge in one of the months of 2023 where we commit to creating art every single day. We'll let you know all about it in a future email so you can join in and follow along. We tend to get so busy in our day-to-day tasks that it is hard to carve out time to actually do what our business is all about, that is PAINT! So our goal in the form of a challenge will help us consistently carve out time to give attention to what we love the most, creating art. Look for the details coming soon!
Happy New Year! -Karen
One of my goals is to become a looser, "painterly" painter. Letting go of details is difficult because it often feels like loose painting is sloppy, unskilled painting. I know that's not true! In fact the opposite is often true. The more you concentrate on details the less impressive the painting is! Anyway, so one of my goals is to paint looser. The second major goal this years is to improve drawing skills. Being able to draw well is important for painting improvement, so I just started working through an online art course to help improve on what Eva Zarley taught us in her 8-week workshop she did with us a couple of summers ago. I learned a lot from her and will build on those fledgling skills in 2023. And a third goal is to paint more. You hit it on the head when you wrote above that we get bogged down with running a business and doing all the hundreds of administrative tasks that nobody ever sees that we run out of time to paint. Painting every day is important, so I'm in on the challenge month! I will vow to schedule time every day on the calendar to paint and then follow my calendar. Sounds like fun!
